<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
One of the best things I love about Kindles is amazons 1 click service & the super cheap e-books, i bought <b>Angel Killer by Andrew Mayne </b>77p, yes you read correct 77p! This book proves the theory that price does not equal quality, in fact it proves the complete opposite, this is one my favorite books i have read this year. </div>
<br />
<br />
<a href="webkit-fake-url://E80AC6A7-2BC7-45C4-B3DB-C5FAA7E4C27E/yd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="yd.jpg" border="0" src="webkit-fake-url://E80AC6A7-2BC7-45C4-B3DB-C5FAA7E4C27E/yd.jpg" style="font-family: Helvetica; font-size: 12px;" /></a>It follows Jessica Blackwood who was once a really good magician before she became an FBI agent, a case crops up which she is roped in due to her background. A serial killer who uses illusions/magician skills to create murders that seem impossible; we are first introduced to the first impossible murder of a girl who was apparently dead for a year crawling out of her grave. Its very spooky. Jessica is able to figure out using her magician knowledge how these murders are possible, and it becomes a cat and mouse type game with her and the killer.<br />
<br />
I really loved this book, if you want a cheap read that will keep you on the edge of your seat then I would totally recommend this to you.<br />

<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;">
I began reading this book the day after reading Game of Thrones, because I obviously fell in love with the plot & characters and so wanted more of the feisty & complex characters, and was so excited to begin reading this. </div>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #4c1130; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span></div>

Two great leaders—Lord Eddard Stark and Robert Baratheon—who hold sway over an age of enforced peace are dead, victims of royal treachery. Now, from the ancient citadel of Dragonstone to the forbidding shores of Winterfell, chaos reigns. Six factions struggle for control of a divided land and the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms, preparing to stake their claims through tempest, turmoil, and war. It is a tale in which brother plots against brother and the dead rise to walk in the night. Here a princess masquerades as an orphan boy; a knight of the mind prepares a poison for a treacherous sorceress; and wild men descend from the Mountains of the Moon to ravage the countryside. Against a backdrop of incest and fratricide, alchemy and murder, victory may go to the men and women possessed of the coldest steel...and the coldest hearts. For when kings clash, the whole land trembles.</span></span></blockquote>
<br />
Although I thoroughly enjoyed Game Of Thrones, I thought that this book would provide me with the same gripping plots and characters. However I found the plots to be too complex and I found myself forgetting who was who, what was happening and why, but I kept on reading in the hopes that it would all come clear. It didn't. I ended up watching Season 2 of the Game of Thrones tv series which is literally this book, and that helped me understand what happened in the book. I think a major player in this issue was the book being so long, and there seemed to be alot of descriptive text going on. Which I skipped most of the descriptive parts which probably made me miss important parts of the story?<br />
<br />
I did however enjoy the characters development and getting a better understanding of their backgrounds and their personalities; Arya, Sansa & Tyroin are my favourite characters, and Daenerys of course with her dragons! This is one of the best parts of this series, the fact that you get to know the characters and you end up knowing what might happen and the politics involved between the families who want the throne.<br />

<b>Tomorrow I will review A Storm Of Swords by George R.R. Martin.</b><br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655346994037284824.post-48326799394349583782012-06-15T15:14:00.000-07:002012-06-15T15:14:34.217-07:00Holiday reads & reviewsCrap. Just realised how late this post is. Since I have more spare time on my hands and I seem to by flying through books this month: I pledge to post every Friday, and if your lucky I may post in-between Fridays!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If you are following me on Twitter (if not @nichola09) then you know I have been in a much sunnier climate than England last week; Majorca! This meant I had an excuse to read to my hearts content whilst lounging on a sun-bed. I have close to 30 books on my kindle, and got through Game of Thrones & 3rd way through Clash of Kings by George R.R. Martin, before my kindle decided to run out of battery *cries*. Yes, I forgot my kindle charger. Luckily Flick had bought a book along too called I Heart Vegas by Lindsay Kelks, so I wasn't without reading material. </div>

<b>Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin</b></div>
<div>
<a href="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978000/744/9780007448036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="A Game of Thrones - A Song of Ice and Fire 1" border="0" src="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978000/744/9780007448036.jpg" /></a>I began reading this book a month ago, after 2 weeks i think i only got through 200 pages and was confused about the plot and characters, mainly due to there being a million characters in the book and my general lack of concentration. So I decided to put the book down and read it whilst on holiday, because the main problem was me; I don't concentrate properly on characters names, and this makes it hard when the book has loads of characters. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However upon reading via the second attempt, I made an effort to properly concentrate on what I was reading. This obviously was the best way to go whilst reading such a detailed and complex book because I was not at all confused. What I most liked was the characters felt real and believable, and the fact that there are politics entwined within the book just makes me think the author is amazingly talented and creative to have an imagination that allows him to create works of art such as this book.</div>
<div>
The book is part of a volume of fantasy novels (Song of Ice and Fire), where the seasons as we know them last decades (so summer for like 10 years say). King Robert makes Lord Eddard Stark his Hand, and from then onwards treason, secrets and family affairs cause issues in the kingdom and power, as the Dragon King who was deposed tries to reclaim power. </div>
<div>
This is one of my favorite books, I am currently reading the second book to this which is literally amazing. So i shall be giving this book a rating of: <b> 5/5</b></div>
<div>
<b><br /></b></div>
<div>
<b>I Heart Vegas</b></div>
<div>
I am not usually a reader of Chick Lit's, but on this occasion it was my last resort. As much a dislike fluffy books, i really enjoyed reading this book! It follows Angela Clarke who is a brit living in New York who is a fashion writer but has just lost her job and is now being kicked out of America and sent packing back to Britain. However she has 30 days to get her new visa and work out how to get a visa without a job, her friends promptly take her on a weekend getaway to Vegas and it all goes wrong/right from there. </div>
<div>
The main thing i loved about this book, and the reason why i don't despair of this book as much as other chick lit's is that the writer can actually write and it was laugh out load funny in the situations that the main character got into. Also i fell in love with Alex slightly :3</div>
<div>
You may see upon googling this book that its in a series (I heart Hollywood/London/New York) however I had not read any of these books previously and was able to quickly grasp who everyone was. So its a lovely beach side read, where you WILL laugh out load and 'aww' aloud. </div>

<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
I love anything written by Stephen King, I have this currently on my Kindle awaiting to be read. Lets see what Waterstones describes it as....</div>
<br />
There are so many books that i have loaded on my kindle ready to read this April, I get so impatient when I'm reading a book when i know there are loads of others i want to read, I'm sure i am not the only person who gets like this, right?<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978000/744/9780007448036.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="A Game of Thrones - A Song of Ice and Fire 1" border="0" src="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978000/744/9780007448036.jpg" /></a><b>A Game of Thrones by George R. R. Martin</b><br />
I feel like I'm a little late on the bandwagon on wanting to read this, it was Published in 1996 and ever since then has developed a huge fan base, it became so popular it was developed into a TV series. If you don't already know what its about Waterstones gives a pretty good description:<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="background-color: #e5e5e5; color: #635e55; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px; line-height: 14px; text-align: left;"> Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun. As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must ! and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty. The old gods have no power in the south, Stark's family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.</span></blockquote>
I have not read a fantasy novel in quite a while, so I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into this when i finish reading Solar by Iam McEwan. I also am looking forward to reading this book because loads of my friends keep going on about the TV series and i feel like I'm missing out!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978071/815/9780718157838.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Me Before You" border="0" src="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978071/815/9780718157838.jpg" /></a><b>Me Before You by Jojo Moyes</b><br />
My mother send me a rather excited email about this book, its not a book I normally go for as according to the blurb its about a girl called Lou Clark who has her simple life but does not love her boyfriends, whilst a guy called Will Trayner decides he no longer wants to live after his motorcycling accident. Of course you know whats going to happen, they 'find' and 'save' each other. I have read so many books loosely based on this plot of saving those who are lost in life that i don't really know how this is going to rise above it all.<br />
However i will borrow my mothers copy and hope that I'm mistaken and this book is simply amazing.<br />
<br />

Sound good, yeah? I think it will be pretty interesting and insightful as to how both eras are represented, i love books that are based in the past, I just know this is going to live up to my expectation of best book of the year.<br />
<br />
Are there any books you are looking forward to reading this April? Have you read any of these, did you like them (no spoilers please!)?<br />
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655346994037284824.post-53928724425462878332012-03-22T11:23:00.000-07:002012-03-22T11:23:04.052-07:00Why I love My kindle<div style="text-align: center;">
My kindle travels everywhere with me; university, the train, home, bed and on holiday. So you can very well see that I am a huge fan of ereaders and am probably a little bit in love with my Kindle <3</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
But, sadly there are those non ereader believers. They hate everything about the kindle and ereaders and think they are sent from the very pits of hell to either destroy the paper books, and comments such as "but kindle's don't smell like books" well of course not! Anyway who goes around sniffing books.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="5456297218_bb3a7bcd49_z_large" height="240" src="http://data.whicdn.com/images/7274123/5456297218_bb3a7bcd49_z_large.jpg" width="320" /> </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
(<a href="http://weheartit.com/entry/7274123"><</a>3)</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u><br /></u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>I still buy books</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
The kindle is just another way of reading a book, I still shop in Waterstones and visit my local library but the Kindle is just a device that allows me to have loads of books at my fingertips. Think of it as like when mp3 players came into use and everyone was all "oh my god there's going to be no more CD's or vinyl!" but now everyone uses mp3's, CD's and vinyl, in fact vinyl sales were up by 29% in 2011 (<a href="http://digitalmusicnews.com/permalink/2012/120104vinyl">source</a>). So to debunk all those people saying ereaders will destroy books forever, i don't think they will!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>Loads of books less weight</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
I so far have 100 or so books uploaded onto my kindle, If i had these in my room i would have no space to put anything, I have 10 boxes in my garage full of books and then i wonder why i can never find a book i want to re-read!! So having a kindle saves space and organises your books so that its easier to find them. Also when i go on holiday before i had my kindle i bought 3 books to read, which took up space in my suitcase and added more weight! But now thanks to my kindle i no longer have this issue, and can bring more than 3!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>University/Work</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Most ereaders now allow you to download pdf's onto your ereader, i know mine does :) As a student I have loads of pdf documents I use such as journal articles and other boring univeristy related stuff, instead of me having to lug all these documents over to uni each day I have downloaded them onto my kindle! </div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<u>Quick access</u></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Say someone reccomends a book to me i can just whip out my kindle and if there is wi-fi i can connect to the internet and locate the book via Amazon. I have done this a few times in book stores which have free wi-fi when i am browsing books to compare the prices as e-books tends to be cheaper than paper books.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

Of course me being the avid book reader took one look at the lovely worded title (It sounds so pretty!) and thought this book sounds amazing just from reading the title. There was no blurb on the book because it was a hardback and somehow the protective cover had been misplaced, so I googled the book and found what I was looking for.<br />
<br />
The book follows 16 year old Hazel, who sadly has incurable cancer. She accepts she is going to die earlier than others but is on a drug that keeps the cancer at bay, thought has to walk around with an oxygen tank. She goes to a support group each week, one week she meets a guy; Augustus Waters who is in remission. They basically fall in love and everything changes for them both good and bad.<br />
<br />
I normally don't go for books that will make me cry, in fact I avoid them, but for some reason I just had to read this book. I am glad I did: the book will have a lasting effect upon how I think about life and enjoying the little things that life brings. The book is not all doom and gloom throughout, but its running theme is cancer and how Hazel, her family & Augustus deal with normal life and live a life as teenagers. Its hilarious in some parts, and I especially love how the characters are cynical and really mature for their age.<br />
<br />
<br />
You will cry, you will laugh and you will hate having to read the last page.<br />

I have finally got my mitts on Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks! My mother had bought the book a few months ago and was raving about how good it is, however it took me ages to find the book because she put it in storage whilst i was at university (im back for the weekend) in the garage with all the other hundreds of books we have!<br />
<br />
Im going to start reading this tonight and i am soooo excited!!<br />

<b>Review: Tripwire by Lee Child: <span style="color: red;">4/5</span></b><br />
I am working my way through the Jack Reacher books and since there are 16 books in the series (so far) then you know that this whole year is probably going to be dedicated to me getting through them all!<br />
So Tripwire is the 3rd book in the series, Reacher is living in Key West without much happening, then a stranger comes to find him...who ends up dead. Reacher then tracks this stranger back to New York where he finds an old flame and an mother and father who's son was lost in Vietnam and lots of cover-ups and story lines overlapping. My kind of book :)<br />
<br />
I didn't really like this book compared to the previous two i have read, i think it was because there are soooo many characters in the book over two plots which admittedly do come together in the end and makes sense. But at the start i was thinking 'oh no this is going to so confusing' which is probably why i didn't get along with it.<br />
The characters are believable and varied, and I love reading about all the technicalities and detailed information that Reacher knows about guns and winning fights.<br />
<br />
Sometimes books i personally believe do not go into the right amount of detail, and just relie on the storyline, Lee Child does not do this. He gets into the details which helps the reader get a better picture of what is going on, and which is why i am giving this book a 4/5; its loosing 1 point because of the confusion of all the characters.<br />
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655346994037284824.post-70023246464387441702012-01-09T11:51:00.000-08:002012-01-09T11:51:18.052-08:00Books into FilmsAt the moment there seems to be alot of film trailers for book adaptations, such as <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B7lf9HgFAwQ">War Horse</a>, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T90Holdcrps&list=PL5F394CB9AB8A3519&index=1&feature=plcp">The Hobbit</a>, and even fairy tales like<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTIJRj_hRao&list=PL5F394CB9AB8A3519&index=4&feature=plcp"> Jack and the Beanstalk</a>! I love that these books are being brought out to those who probably would not have read the books, and I will admit I have never heard of and therefore not read War Horse (But it is now on my to read list!). <div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However the most anticipated book adapted to film is<a href="http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=the%20hunger%20games%20trailer&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CCsQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D4S9a5V9ODuY&ei=hisLT4TeN4Ss8QPBjLW_AQ&usg=AFQjCNG0zC4_aVM8SHSTqh0MJWjvm6aHuw&sig2=m84lj7VYp3vJt1Ne6sWFzA"> The Hunger Games</a> by Suzanne Collins. Its a dystopia novel in the future where the Capitol select a boy and a girl from each District (sort of like states/countys) where they fight to the death, which is aired on TV, the book follows Katniss who volunteers instead of her sister who was originally picked to fight. I heard of this book a year ago and never got round to reading, until i saw it in my local bookstore and i never looked back!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When i first heard about this book being adapted into a film, I was slightly put off/annoyed because other books i have read that were adapted into films such as One Day in my view did not do the book justice. And i was quite scared that the adaptation of the Hunger Games might fall into the same trap, however from looking at the trailers recently released I am really excited and it seems like the Director Gary Ross has done the book and Suzanne Collins proud.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

Also we cannot talk about books being adapted into films without a mention of Stieg Larsson's Girl with the dragon tattoo which is my ultimate faveorite book in the world. </div>

The book was<a href="http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1132620/"> apapted into a movie in 2009</a> by Sweden, I can vaguely remember that it was being shown in the UK too but because the film was Swedish it had subtitles, which puts me off watching films. Then in 2011 the Uk version of the book/swedish film was released! The book was so gritty and so detailed so i am still deciding weather to go and watch the film or just stick with the book, because im sure they will cut out the best bits from the book. </div>

What do you think on book to film adaptations? </div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655346994037284824.post-75517717585617480172012-01-06T15:23:00.000-08:002012-01-06T15:30:50.024-08:002012 book resolutionsI never tend to set myself proper goals for books i tend to just read whatever looks interesting and a good read, but because of this I tend to stick in my comfort zone genre; <i>crime, thriller, mystery</i>. I have seen some really interesting books under other genres such as fantasy, science fiction, biographies, and real life accounts. So my first goal/resolution/whatever will be to <b><u>step out of my comfort zone</u>!</b><br />
<b><br /></b><br />
<b><u>Read some classics</u></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

(Image: Miss Havisham from the BBC adaptation)</div>
I will admit I have never read any 'classic' books such as Pride & Prejudice, Jane Eyre, and Great Expectations. Everyone always raves about these books and (mostly due to guilt) I really want to read a few book before 2012 is over, especially Great Expectations; as i watched it on the BBC iplayer a few days ago and fell in love with the story line.<br />
<br />
<b><u>Reorganise my books</u></b><br />
I am officially a book hoarder. I have about 50 books in my wardrobe stored away, and another 200 taking up space in the garage. Whenever I see them i get a little pang of guilt that they are sat there collecting dust, and I know that I am very unlikely to re-read the books again (especially with the above goals) but I can't bear to part with them!<br />
Hopefully this year when I move back home from University in June I can muster up the courage to tackle my ever growing book collecting and donate them to charity.<br />
<br />
I hope you all had a lovely start to the new year, and i will be updating regulary (at least once a week!). So keep your eyes peeled!<br />

<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<a href="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978184/756/9781847563071.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Confessions of a GP" border="0" src="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978184/756/9781847563071.jpg" /></a> I bought this on my Kindle last week and it was one of the best 'quick reads' I have ever read. It is written by a GP in England who gives us a view into his world and each chapter is about a patient with a funny/heart warming story or just general interesting things about GP's.<br /><br />I really enjoyed reading this ebook and it was only 99p from Amazon so great value for what you get. The best thing about this book is that it makes you laugh out loud, now i read loads of book reviews that say 'this book made me laugh out loud' and then i go and read it and it doesnt, I am really easy to make laugh so i think sometimes people just say this for the sake of it, HOWEVER this book literally made me laugh. You get to see some of the wacky situations this GP gets into and the hilarious 'issues' that some of his patients complain about.</div>
<div style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<br /></div>
I would say about 75% of the book is his stories of patients, whilst the rest is a mix of interesting bits about what its like to be a GP and the politics surrounding it. He also answer in a chapter issues currently in the papers about their wages amongst other things, which was really eye opening and i now have more respect for my local doctor than i normally did.<br />
<br />
All in all a fantastic great read which i highly recommend!<br />

If your a regular follower of my blog (nicholasthoughts.blogspot.com) you will know I have just started my final year at university and i have a shockingly packed workload, if you mention dissertation I will give you the look of death....<br />
Anyway lets get onto some book reviews :)<br />
<br />
<b>The Shack by William Young</b><br />
OK so this book is about a guy who's daughter gets murdered whilst on a camping trip with friends. A few years later after being angry at god, and grieving he receives a letter from God asking to meet him in the shack where police had found her bloody clothes.<br />
Firstly i must state that I do believe in God so obviously I have a different view to Atheist who I personally think would pick up about 10000 faults with this book. However though i do believe in God i'm not one of those people who are totally OMG I LOVE YOU GOD. I'm your regular 21 year old uni student who loves reading books.<br />
I loved how this book challenged our perspective on who/what God is, i especially loved the walking on water part of the book where it really hit home that you need someone to 'guide' or 'help' you through out life or else you would slowly sink. I can really relate to this book (except for the murdering aspect!) and it has taught me a great deal about life and made me question some of my beliefs on the subject of forgiveness. I really do recommend this book, even if you are an Atheist this book does provide some good topics to think about and discuss with others.<br />

Rating: 5/5<br />
<br />
<b>Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher</b><br />
One of the saddest books i have ever read. Clay Jenson receives a mysterious package one morning containing a set of tapes. When he listens to the tapes he hears the voice of a fellow student who recently committed suicide (Hannah Barker) and who he had a crush on, she relays to the chosen few named on the tapes the reasons why she committed suicide and why they are to blame.<br />
As the title suggests there are 13 reasons why she comfits suicide; 13 people including Clay are mentioned in these tapes and told how they contributed- no matter how innocent, small or major!<br />
Its really interesting seeing how small events can collect and make someone consider/commit suicide. I do think some of the events were slightly out there and i know people who have been in far worse situations who did not commit suicide, but i do know people are different, so it did open my eyes to what i could do might effect someone else!<br />
I really loved how the book is laid out, as the recording and Clay's comments alternate. It makes you feel like you are Clay and can really emphasise with Hannah and Clay.<br />
<br />
Rating: 4/5<br />
<br />
<b>Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult</b><br />
I love anything by Jodi Picoult, and this book did not disappoint!<br />
It centres around an Amish girl who hides a pregnancy, gives birth in secret and then the baby dies. The dead baby is later found and the police are called in. The girl denies ever having a baby and there starts the media circus surrounding the unsuspecting Amish community who would never hurt a fly to the people who want justice for the baby.<br />
I read this book in 1 day whilst on holiday.... so you can see how absolutely amazing it is! I really do believe this is a must read book for everyone. Jodi Picoult really gets to grips with the ins and outs of the Amish community and the court case to go with it, I really enjoyed this book mainly because of the detailing which is what Jodi does best. The characters have so much depth and felt so real, and believable.<br />
The ending however i hated, i won't spoil it for you BUT its a shocker and i hated it. It would have been so much better to have just left it as it was, but i see where Jodi came from when she decided on that ending- all is not so black and white!!<br />

<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Since my last post (August 8<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">th</span>, bad <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Nichola</span>!) I have read three books, but one of these i will post about next week :) So keep you eyes peeled!</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The books I will be reviewing today are:<b> Dead Until Dark by Charline Harris</b> & <b>13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher</b>.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><img src="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978057/508/9780575089365.jpg" border="0" alt="" style="text-align: justify;float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 130px; height: 200px; " /><div style="text-align: justify;">Lets start with Dead Until Dark, since I have just watched Season 4 Episode 11 of True Blood so it only seems fitting. I started reading the True Blood books only because I am such a huge fan of the TV Series and thought why have i not read the books before? So off I went on Amazon Kindle Store and bought the book (£4.99).</div><div style="text-align: justify;">If you <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">haven't</span> </div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">heard of True Blood or haven't read/watched it before the storyline revolves around <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">Sookie</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Stackhouse</span> and her little town of Louisiana, Vampires have recently 'came o<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">ut</span> the coffin' meaning they have revealed themselves to the world, you learn that <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">Sookie</span> <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">isn't</span> normal (no she <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">isn't</span> a vampire!!!), she befriends a vampire (Bill) and meets other along the way.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">The story is very dark and sometimes frightening in places, but i think the TV series is much darker and sexier than the books. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I personally did not enjoy reading this book, I think its because i have watched the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">TV</span> series and therefore i had high expectations for the book which <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">weren't</span> met. I was slightly annoyed to find that one of the main characters in the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">TV</span> show is murdered in the first few chapters, and some plot lines that were extended in Season 1-2 only lasted 5<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">ish</span> chapters and <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14">didn't</span> give me that thrill the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_15">TV</span> show provided.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">However what i personally liked was that it was from <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_16">Sookies</span> perspective, so we get to hear what she thinks, feels, and <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_17">sees</span>. So we get to be <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_18">Sookie</span> in the story rather than an outsider :)</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_19">I'm</span> going to give this book a <b>3/5. </b></div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><img src="http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1181958465m/1217100.jpg" border="0" alt="" style="text-align: justify;float: left; margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0px; cursor: pointer; width: 108px; height: 160px; " /><div style="text-align: justify;">Next book is 13 Reasons Why by Jay Asher.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">13 Reasons Why is a gripping and heart wrenching novel following Clay Jensen who one day finds a set of <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_20">cassette</span> tapes with his name on it lying on his porch. The <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_21">cassettes</span> are recorded by Hannah Baker- his school friend who recently <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_22">committed</span> suicide. On these tapes she explains 13 reasons why she took her own life, Clay being one of them.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_23">absolutely</span> enjoyed reading this book, so much so that it only took me a day to read it. I liked that we get two views of suicide as its a double narrative of Hannah talking to her chosen 13 through the tapes, and Clay who commented on what she said, sometimes admitting he should of helped. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">This is classed as a teen novel as it deals with teenagers at school and their issues they face everyday. I think anyone any age would enjoy this novel because obviously everyone has been to school and probably faced some issues she faced (hopefully not the one at the party), which i liked because i can <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_24">remember</span> some key events in my life that shaped how i am today. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Suicide is a big issue that people shy away from, its seen as a taboo subject. But this book breaks the mould and provides the perspective of both sides- why someone considers/commits suicide and how it affects others. I love books like this that challenge the reader and it made me think, and i do believe it has changed my perspective on suicide and why people do consider it. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">
<br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I think this book is a love it or hate it book. But I loved it and as such will be giving it a <b>5/5.</b></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655346994037284824.post-27189857085870499302011-08-09T12:55:00.000-07:002011-08-09T13:44:40.815-07:00Tuesday book talk<div style="text-align: justify;">I was trying to come up with a ironic title for this post, as I plan to make Tuesdays my 'what Nichola found interesting about books this week' post. However I stumbled upon one book in my local library called <b>Duma Key</b> which from reading the blurb looked really interesting, and of course the book was bulky (do we expect anything other than a bulky book from Mr. King? No) which is my Favourite thing about books, so I jumped on the Stephen King bandwagon and read my first book by this author and never looked back. Though I didnt particulary enjoy this book there were parts i did like, just not the whole book...</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;">Last year I read<b> Under The Dome</b> by Stephen King which was no at all scary, apart from the gory bits! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and fell back in love with his novels and was eagerly anticipating his new book Full Dark, No Stars.</div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>Full Dark, No Stars</b> is a collecting of three short stories , i was disappointed that he has wrote short stories as he is known for these bulky books he writes in great detail. So i was wondering how he might write a smaller novel and would he miss out those important details i as a reader love so much about with his previous novels. One word; No. He is able to compact his normal bulky writing to his normal high standard, which is one aspect that i loved about these novels; i could get the same thrill of reading small novels with smaller details, which is sometimes lost in these types of small story collections. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">As I said previously Stephen King novels tend to be creepy and scary, however these short stories didn't scare me in the slightest...apart from the last one. It was more of a what would someone do in certain (creepy & scary) situations, which i really enjoyed because I don't think many people consider the 'other' options we have. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div></div></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I really enjoyed reading these short stories, it made a change from getting into a really bulky Stephen King book and getting lost for a week, not having any human contact within that time as the books sucks you in...these do that also however because they are so much smaller it probably takes at a few hours to read just one! So you can have human contact AND a Stephen King novel at the same time, amazing!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655346994037284824.post-50518157615790263772011-07-20T13:22:00.001-07:002011-07-20T14:08:18.736-07:00Its called a book review: The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes<a href="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978014/102/9780141028675.jpg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px; height: 200px;" src="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978014/102/9780141028675.jpg" border="0" alt="" /></a><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span">I finished <span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px; ">The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes a few days ago, I was going to post a review the minute i finished but i finished it at 1am in the morning and i was too sleepy to switch on my laptop and write a review, but it just shows how much i enjoyed reading this book! And oh boy was i in for a </span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;">surprise (I'm sure you will agree if you have read the book) about who the narrator is and what he/she is counting down to. </span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;">The book starts by introducing us to each of the main characters (Though more main characters come into play later) who live in 66 Star Street, we get to know each of the characters and their lifestyles, aspirations, and life outside of 66 Star Street. I found the book tended to centre on the issue of relationships (love, hate, etc) which was quite interesting to see how each character of different ages interact within these relationships (especially Maive poor thing!).</span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"> </span></span></span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px; ">Its ending i will not spoil for you, but the build up to it is definitely worth it! </span><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px; ">At first i was completely confused and thought i must have misread it, so i re-read the last few pages again just to make sure i hadn't missed anything because it was slightly out of the blue, and i honestly would not have thought of a plot line like this before. I found guessing who the narrator was and what they were counting down to a really great aspect to the book, as the majority of books tell you the 'important event' at the start or middle to keep the reader from becoming bored, but this novel didnt require that, since the strong characters and mini plot lines within it keeps the readers attention and it made me personally want to know what would happen next. So its a book that involved you and sucks you in from the start, perfect!</span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;">This is the first book i have read by Marian Keyes and i will be looking out for her other books, because this book was so unique to others i have read, but if you have read/liked books such as <b>One Day by David Nichols</b> i think you will like this book too! </span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px;"><br /></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="line-height: 18px; "><span class="Apple-style-span"><b>My rating: 5/5</b></span></span></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3655346994037284824.post-89262384109195156102011-07-09T12:30:00.000-07:002011-07-10T11:28:10.220-07:00Welcome<div style="text-align: justify;">Firstly let me welcome you to my new blog; It's Called A Book!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Its going to be my place to write book reviews, write about new authors I have stumbled across, write about news in the world of books and above all just write my own opinions about books in general.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><img src="http://www.waterstones.com/wat/images/nbd/m/978014/102/9780141028675.jpg" style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 130px; height: 200px;" border="0" alt="" /><div style="text-align: justify;">I am currently reading <b>The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes </b>(RRP £7.99), I am halfway through it on my kindle and its such a lovely story line so far. Its centred round tennants living at 66 Star Street (I want to live on Star Street <3) and their life stories, relationships with parents, flatmates, significant other, etc. Our narrator i personally at this moment think is either a fly or a ghost? The first chapter i was thinking why is a fly telling this story? And why are the chapters called 'Day 61...' then the next chapter is 'Day 60' so obviously something big is going to happen to these residents when it reaches Day 0? Well i'm hoping!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Currently im on Day 36 and 53% the way through it according to my Kindle and already so much has happened, I am very much looking forward to snuggling up later and reading it until late at night and i HAVE TO go to sleep, its very unputdownable!</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><i>Also does anyone know how to see what actual page your on when reading a book on a kindle rather than the % through. I hate when people ask me what page i'm on and i have to reply with a percentage instead of a page number!</i></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><i><br /></i></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><b>Waterstones </b>currently have an offer in store where you buy 2 and get the cheapest free, obviously i took advantage of this offer about bought some books I liked the sound of;</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><ul><li>The Confession by Nick Grisham</li><li>Full Dark, No stars by Stephen King</li><li>The Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson</li></ul><div>They all sound really interesting reads, and would you believe that they are the first books i have bought this year because i tend to read books on my kindle now, so i never have actual books. Crazy right?! </div></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
